It Happens Only in India….

Who says strange things happen only in the West. We have our own stories that can be the root of so much pride. Some blazing examples from recent news….
<![if !supportLists]>1.     <![endif]>A man convicted of gang rape and murder dies in prison after hanging himself and apparently he has human rights and lawyers trying hard to prove foul play. How could he hang himself where every breath is monitored? No wonder criminals run this country. If you can become a martyr after doing what Ram Singh did, the life of a middle class law abiding citizen is so pointless.
<![if !supportLists]>2.     <![endif]>Most of us have heard the horror stories of identity theft and even see and admired some movies surrounding the core concepts of stolen/fake IDs. And, most of these are in English and stright off AXN, Fox Crime or Star World. And then comes Bitti Mohanty who not only rapes a German woman in 2006 and then disappears while on a 15 day parole. (Now this is what can happen only in India…) He resurfaces 7 years later (not one or two, but SEVEN!) with an MBA degree, and a PO job in State Bank of Travancore, no less. I am sure now we will begin endless debates over his human rights and why he should not be shot in the ….
<![if !supportLists]>3.     <![endif]>A President, whose highlight of life was the fact that she spent the most amount of Tax Rupees ever in travelling the world (205 Crore!), gets the The President's Pensions Rules, 1962, circumvented to be allowed a post retirement vacation home (she must be tired and seriously jet-lagged and Maharaja 1 food could not have been helping!) sprawling across over 6000 Sq. Ft., at a renovation cost of 1.03 crores. And the spend traditions shall hold for sure given an equally undeserving successor.
<![if !supportLists]>4.     <![endif]>A politician gives away free laptops to college students in a last bid to get popular support from the youngsters. 15 lakh laptops at Rs 19,000 each! He then says "If this is what we can achieve in one year, imagine what we can accomplish over the next four years," and he has his father and his photos as wallpapers (dare you forget who paid or who made someone pay…!). So much for selfless good intentions! Not that he or his father or their femme rival need popular support to win elections in UP. It is a rotation duty to earn illegal money. I wonder who paid for the laptops and/or what HP gets in return for this immense premature campaign funding.
We have so much to be proud of, don't we? A country run by criminals, a democracy represented by fools and a legal system that is treated like toilet paper. What is remarkable is that we still go and vote, and watch the news, and hope that change is somewhere around the corner. I think that's is the spirit…
