5 Most Irritating Drivers...

After a couple of years of driving on US streets, of course having come from a place where 25 mph is about the highest speed you can drive at, I have taken to love driving in US. But sometimes, the pleasure of driving can be taken out very often by some irritating habits of people who just don't seem to get it. I think you need to put them on Indian streets for some time to realize the privileges they enjoy in a world of high speed traffic with wide lanes and traffic rules that are actually followed (barring the occasional exception of places like New York).

Among the most irritating breed is the driver who does not get the concept of "use the left lane to pass only". I think some place we need to specify that it actually means that the left lane is for people who actually have to get somewhere, and today at that. Leisure drivers who actually have no place to get to very soon - we invested the right lane for you, stick to it and let us, the folks who actually like to get someplace today, drive there faster.

Then of course there are those who think that I am passing them at a higher speed because I am racing with them. Gentlemen (and the occasional lady), it's not personal. It's just that your pea sized intellect and infinite time perspective cannot really comprehend the concept of getting somewhere quickly. If I have the luxury of driving at 70 mph, I'd rather drive at 72 mph than at 65 mph and get pissed at people who are actually trying to beat the traffic. Stick to the tortoise lane on the right I will leave you alone.

The third variety of people quite simply are the drivers of the huge and heavy entities on the road that are so fondly called trucks. I cannot see past them and trucks cannot drive all that weight at the speed limit of a highway. Please get a car that is moderate in size and will not get in the way of us poor fellow compact and small car drivers. I am on the road too, you know!

One of the classiest acts are the fancy cars who are so scared of bumping and getting scratched, that you drive a latest BMW at 45 mph on a 75 mph road. Why waste the money, buy a scooter and drive on the service lanes. I just feel that you should buy cars that you can afford to maintain. Just don't buy it for the pleasure of owning one - give me the money, I will blow it off gambling on Penny Stocks if your are so intent on throwing it away; there would be some good coming off the water resources.

Last but not the least, there is the God (cop) fearing driver who will throw convenience and common sense out of the window just because someone taught them to follow a rule no matter what when passing the written driver's test. You really don't need to start hitting the brakes the moment you see an AMBER on the signal post. Most times you can actually make it before it goes RED! But then of course it assumes the axiom that you actually need to get somewhere on time.
