Here we are, another weekend and I am slogging through my day praying hard to merge into the weekend real quickly.
My mind wonders back to Daniel Defoe and his assistant ‘Friday’ – if only he knew how lazy we get on Fridays of our lives, he would never have done a dime of work for our man Robinson Crusoe! What an irony of a name for a man who did all the grunt work for his master.
Apparently, in some cultures, Friday is considered unlucky. I am told by the Encyclopedia of the world that this is a legend created and led by the most enduring sailing superstition is that it is unlucky to begin a voyage on a Friday. Why would anyone want to start sailing on a Friday. Everyone is lazy on a Friday and you are bound to make more mistakes leading to a ship sinking on The Dies Infaustus. Some of the wisest and smartest people I know, excluding myself (LOL), screw up on Friday! It’s why it is called “Fri”day. Try putting in constructive effort on this day and you will end up getting fried!
Start everything on Monday and stop work by noon on Friday. Better still, include the Friday in the weekend and make longer work hours! You’ll get a 5 work day worth of effort and fold into the Utah based 4 day workweek movement.
The advantages of a so-called 4-10 schedule are clear: less commuting, lower utility bills. But there have been unexpected benefits as well, even for people who aren't state employees. By staying open for more hours most days of the week, Utah's government offices have become accessible to people who in the past had to miss work to get there in time. “With the new 4-10 policy, lines at the department of motor vehicles actually got shorter. Plus, fears that working 10-hour days would lead to burnout turned out to be unfounded”.
[Read more on TIME]. Who burns out from 10 hours of work. Unless it is continuous precision work, all of us can put in an extra couple of hours – in fact we do so in most professions! The lucky amongst us get to draw overtime while the ill fated (like me), just succumb to slavery.
So, here we are, halfway through Friday and some leftover Chinese take-away for lunch, I swear I will cook myself an Indian food feast this evening! Will post the pictures if my experimental cooking yields positive and picturesque results!
